This book didn’t really catch my attention .For instance the theme jumped a lot with some chapters that are one sentence long! Also randomly stuff pops up. When I think of this book I don’t really think I will try to let other people read this book except for the end part. But you also have improper grammar usage like cora and her sisters is coraandhersisters with no space. Witch is why in all this book got a 18/24 rating.
Brown Girl Dreaming
18 rating of rubric out of 24
I think Brown Girl Dreaming has some interesting events in the book. For example when the grandfather died. When I read that part I thought of how my great grandfather died. He had an illness and passed away. This was touching to me because I loved how the author put that part in so people can relate to it. Another interesting part event was when they moved to New York City. It’s really hard to move from the country to the city. No friends, no grandma and grandpa, this would have been hard for me. I gave this book a rating of three stars because of the characters. I think it was a little to sad for me. I like happy up beat books that make me laugh. Brown Girl Dreaming was good, relatable, and it taught me more about my past as a little brown girl.
I TOTALLY AGREE IT WAS HARD TO READ AND I DIDN'T LIKE THE POEMS
IT WAS NOT A BAD BOOK! THIS WAS A BOOK ABOUT A LIFE A LITTLE CHILD. IT WAS NOT BAD CHARLOTTE!
Brown Girl Dreaming 4 stars 21 points
In the book Brown Girl Dreaming Jacqueline is a little girl livening in a time of segregation. It is very hard for her. Her parents got divorced and she had to move into her grandparents’ house. When I was little my parents got divorced and I had to live with my grandparents. She has an older brother and sister. After a couple of years Jacqueline, her mom, and her brother and sister move to Brooklyn, New York. Part of the reason I gave it 4 stars is because one second they’re with their grandparents and the next thing you know they’re in Brooklyn. While the mom is in Brooklyn she has a baby boy. He ends up going to the hospital when he gets older. He had been licking paint of the wall. The good part is he lives. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because it is ok in the beginning, but really good in the end. I gave 21 points because things like the setting were really good, but things like originality were ok.
Brown Girl Dreaming
3 1/2 stars
Over all, I thought “Brown Girl Dreaming” was an O.K. book. It was mostly interesting, but I felt that the setting wasn’t really important to the story. It was also kind of confusing when she called her grandpa “Daddy” because I thought her mom and her dad were back together again. Because it was an autobiography, there wasn’t really a story, which didn’t really hold my interest. Another reason it didn’t hold my interest is because I cannot relate to it. I would recommend this book to mostly older relatives.
I agree with Darby because I did not quite understand the parts that she did not understand also throughout the book.

Hi my name is David and I am going to tell you what I thought about the book Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson. I couldn’t quite understand the book, it did not make much sense to me. I did not get the concept of the book. It did not quite pull me in unlike lots of other books I read. I think it might be more of an adult book more than a kids book. I did not know were they were half of the time, they did not explain the setting very much. Every page was a new chapter and they really did not organize the book much. Whenever I actually understood the book I would flip to the next page and it would be a brand new chapter! I also did not understand the plot! I did not really know what Jacqueline look like until pretty far in the book! I hope you understood my response. Thank you for listening, bye.
David, I abject. This book was kind of like Wonder. Each page was a chapter. I think if you read this book again, you might understand the concept of the story. It is sort of like a autobiography, but it was a touching book like Brooklyn. Try to look for it in the media center to read it again to understand it.
Brown Girl Dreaming
I loved Brown Girl Dreaming! I put 5 stars because I loved the setting and how Jacqueline wrote it crystal clear. The chapters were clear and I liked how she was writing about her life. She interested me by writing different things about her life like the boy with the hole in his heart and Cora and her sisters. That was how I knew she was writing about her own life. I also know about how she felt about someone going to jail. I liked how she stated that she hated the ribbons and dreamed the day she would be too old for ribbons. I think I am the only one who likes Brown Girl Dreaming because it was a little confusing when it suddenly changed topics but I still liked this book. I think students who can keep up with sudden changes in the chapters and they also like non-fiction stories. This is how this book rocks.
Gabe I agree but I have to say that the book is okay not the best but fine.I still love brown girl dreaming but once you read a sentence 1 or2 times it makes total sense. Now I say this book amazing rather than okay
Brown Girl Dreaming 21/24 4 stars
I liked this book because it was sad. I liked how Woodsen had some problems in this book. Like how her dad and aunt died, her uncle went to jail, and how the three neighbors always tease her. I didn’t like the setting how it did two or three pages on something then went to another thing. That is why I gave it a four. I liked all the charcters, expect one her dad. hHe died in the story right away. I only liked the plot laungaunge because it had a little bit of tone. I think people that are interested in segeration would like this book.
Brown Girl Dreaming *** ½ 17/24
Today I read (and finished) A good book named Brown Girl Dreaming. The story is about a young girl (Jacqueline) and life. I rated this book 17/24 is sometimes the book got into mixed up plots. The two great things in the book were the characters and the originality. I will always remember the characters forever (except for 1 person) .I gave it *** and ½ stars because it wasn’t bad or good. It was written in a poetic form, and got confusing such as when she calls her grandpa “DADDY.”

I read Brown Girl Dreaming .This book was about a girl who lived in the 60s and 70s.She lived in South Carolina but, then she moved to Ohio. I think this book was organized confusingly. I got confused when she was moving to Ohio. I didn’t get which characters were moving. There where so many details. I think if you like books that take place in the olden days you would like this book. That’s why I gave this book three stars.
