A Tangle of Knots Stars ***** Rating from Rubric 24/24
In the book A Tangle of Knots by Lisa Graff, it tells quite a few stories. There are stories about Zane, Will, Marigold, and so on, but we are here to talk about Cady. Cady is an orphan. She is living in Miss Mallory’s Home for Lost Girls. She is the only orphan there because Miss Mallory finds the perfect home for the other girls in a blink. She has a talent of doing that. Cady has been trying to find her past and her parents for a long time, but in her free time Cady LOVES to bake cakes! Cady could find your perfect cake and bake it just by looking at you. That’s her talent. She goes to a baking contest that she always wins. She always wins because when she meets the judge in the beginning she finds out their perfect cake. Now there are 5 judges. “What will she do?” This book is full of magic, mystery, and humor. I love this book because it is an action packed adventure that will lift your spirits. That is why I think this book should get the Mock Newberry Award.
Title: Tangle of Knots Stars: 5 Rating from rubric:24/24
Tangle of Knots is a great book about a girl named Cady, who is great at baking cakes. She makes everybody she meets a cake based on their personality. She was an orphan at Miss Mallory’s Home for Lost Girls in Poughkeepsie. A man named Toby adopts her, and she loves it with him. Along the way, Cady meets people that have certain problems they need to solve. The Owner is trying to find a peanut butter cake recipe. The Ashers; Dolores, Zane, Marigold, and Will, are great friends to Cady. Troubles happen throughout the book, too! The reason I love this book so much is because all of the characters’ stories connect! I also like how Cady makes cakes based on people’s personalities. For example, Will’s cake is a s’more cake, and Zane’s is a garlic cake. This book is a great read! I think it may win the Mock Newbery Award, and I’m looking forward to skyping with the author. ~ Lillie

A Tangle of Knots by: Lisa Graff
3 ½ stars
20 ½ points from rubric
I think the book A Tangle of Knots by Lisa Graff should get the Mock Newberry award because it oozes a great number of originality. This book is about a little girl named Cady who lives in “Miss. Mallory’s Home for Lost girls”. Where Cady lives people have a gift and that gift is a Talent. Cady’s Talent is baking cakes. Cady will take one look at you and figure out the prefect cake for you. When a man named Toby takes Cady in a lot of things change. Cady moves into the Lost Luggage Emporium and meets a new family across the street. What will happen? Find out in A Tangle of Knots.
I gave this book 3 ½ stars because when I read a book a I don’t want to put it down but it was more the opposite with this book. I liked this book because it was really original but it wasn’t that interesting .I gave this book 20 ½ points because again I thought it needed a more interesting factor. That’s why I want this book to win the Mock Newberry award.
Rating from the Rubric: 22/24
Star Rating: 4/5
I have read the book Tangle of Knots, which is an amazing book about a girl named Cady (Cadence) who is an orphan. She goes through year of trying to get a “forever home” and she finally does. For my rating from the rubric, I give this book a 22/24 and my star rating is 4/5. I would have given this book a 24/24 and a 5/5 but there were some problems. There were some parts that I didn’t understand. I understand that there are different scenes but they all revolve around Cady, but some parts have nothing to do with her. For example, what does a guy whistling in a store have to do with Cady? That’s what I wonder. But, I really liked other parts too! My favorite parts are when Cady is baking (since she is an OUTSANDING baker) and she makes delicious cakes and goodies! YUM!!! I think my favorite cake is the s’mores cake. I really enjoyed this book and I think this book has potential of winning the Mock Newbery award.
A tangle of Knots 4 ½ stars 19
I think that A Tangle of Knots by: Lisa Graff is exciting but slightly confusing. I gave this book a score of nineteen and four and a half stars. What I like about this book is the organization, characters, and originality. This book was of great interest to me. Unfortunately I could not imagine the setting clearly.
There were a few things that I loved about this book such as the organization, characters, and originality. This book had me hooked. I like how for each chapter it was about a different character so you had a verity of choices. The characters were described very well. I could tell which ones were greedy and which ones were kind, which had brown hair and which had black hair. I enjoyed every part of it. Everything was original.
There was one thing in this book that I did not like very well. The setting was dull and did not describe well. I wish that the descriptions of the setting and other things were more engaging. Instead of, the soggy cake I would have liked the wet cake flopped over sideways and landed on the floor.
Even though I did not care for the description, I still think that this book should get the Newberry award. The organization, characters, and originality was great. I wanted to keep on reading!
4 ½ stars
Over the week I read Tangle of Knots written by Lisa Graff . I gave it a 4 ½ stars and a 22 for the rubric. I gave the story 4 ½ stars because it was a really fun book although, it kept on switching around with people’s stories . For example, one chapter would be called Cady and it will talk about Cady, but then the next chapter would be called The Owner and it will talk about The Owner. I gave the rubric a 22 because it was super hard to put down because of the excitement. The story was very good and engaging . The story would be a little confusing if you were reading the beginning and you would want to stop but, if you read the rest it wouldn’t be confusing. The reason it was confusing is because there are lots of characters and each chapter has a different characters story like I said before. I gave the plot language a 4, a 3 for the organization, a 4 for the interest (because it was super hard to put down), a 4 for the setting, a 3 for the characters because you could forget them. Lastly I gave the originality a 4 because it is a original and its own self. This book was incredibly awesome so I think it should get the Mock Newberry Award.
3 star rating 20/24 Rubric Rating
I rated this book 3 stars because the character descriptions were not strong. When it described Cady, I could barely see her. In the story the plot language was very strong. When it described the foggy morning in the beginning, I felt like I was right there. It said it was a foggy morning, and you could see the ground in front of you. I have never read a book about baking cakes and finding your talent. When I read that Cady won 5 cake baking trophies and made room for a sixth, I thought that was cool! I want to read an other book by Lisa Graff because I think her story is very original. I think the Book A Tangle of Knots should get the Mock Newberry Award.
