Past Reading Programs
The Reading Incentive Program runs from August -March
GO Read
Reading Road Trip
The media center will host a school wide reading program. The theme this year is Reading Road Trip. This theme will explore the United States while at the same time encouraging students to read. Students will be given reading logs to fill out. They will be expected to read for a minimum of 20 minutes per day (100 for the week).
During the program they will have the opportunity to complete 6 Road Trip centers (map, symbols, elections, Georiga, national landmarks, and folktales) that will be set up in the media center.
Individual Recognition
1. Each child who meets their nine week goal will receive the reading incentive indicated on their logs. These include coupons for free kid’s meals, hockey tickets, or entry into Six Flags.
2. Students who turn ALL THEIR READING LOGS IN ON TIME for the entire year will be recognized at Awards Day in May. They will receive a medal and a book.
3. Reading logs will be due to the media center MONDAY morning. Late logs will only be accepted if the student was absent.
Class Recognition
1. Classroom charts will be displayed in the front hallway. Classes will move on the journey if 80% of the students in the class turn in their reading logs each week. As the classes progress they will earn a sticker on their class chart-the goal is earn a sticker each week on their chart. Each week they earn a sticker they will also learn a few facts about the solar system.
2. Classes that complete the program (earn all of their stickers) will earn free books for their classroom library.
Media Center Activities
Related centers will rotate on a monthly basis. Each center will focus on a different aspect of the current reading program.
