Rump
5 stars
24/24 rubric rating
I think the book Rump by Lisel Shurtliff should win the Newberry Award. It was so cool and humorous! It was about a boy who wanted to find his full name. The first part was Rump. He also got a talent from his mom. He can spin straw into gold! I rated it five stars because it described the characters so well that I can imagine it. Even though it didn’t state the emotion straight in the text, I know how Rump feels. Like in the sentences, “A chill ran down my spine that had nothing to do with the freezing air. My heart began to thump in my chest. Fredrick and Bruno were standing just feet away from me. I shifted nervously, and a dead twig snapped beneath my boot.” I know that Rump is scared. Continuing, it doesn’t take a long time for me to get interested in the book. The first paragraph engaged me to read the next paragraph, and so forth. I also recommend you to read this book.

Title: Rump
Star: *****
Rating from rubric: 24/24
The book Rump by Lesil Shurtliff is a humorous and action packed. I gave it five stars because of the action, description, and jokes. This book was about a boy trying to find his full name to complete his destiny. This twist on the classic tale of Rumpelstilskin (oops!) was absolutely worth gold. Every good book has sad parts, too. Although this book was not a tear jerker, but it was sad at times. For example, when Rump’s Gran dies, that as sad. This book is very easy to understand and makes you want read more. Rump should win the Mock Newberry Award.

Title: Rump Stars: 5 Rubric Rating: 24
The reason I gave Rump 5 stars is because it was interesting, you could think The Mountain or Yonder and beyond is real. Rump, Gran, Red they could be called friends that’s how lifelike they are. I was amazed how they set up the plot of the story. The point of the story is that the people in the story say that your name is destiny, in Rump’s case destiny is his name. He travels all over the country to find it. While traveling, he finds out it was straight in front of him. Rumpelstilskin. Anyone with common sense would give this amazing book the Mock Newberry Award.

24 from rubric rating

In the story Rump ,Rump’s mom dies before telling the grandma Rump’s full name. All she says is Rump. In his town a girl named Red is his only friend. Rump and Red live in a town where your name is your destiny. Rump finds out he can spin straw into gold. Little after that his grandma dies while she is sleeping. He is heartbroken after his grandma dies. He has no family left or so he thinks. He decided to see if anyone knew his mother and travled to yonder. On his way to yonder he encounters friendly but smelly trolls. He finally reaches yonder and then after a little more of walking finds three woman in the woods and one of them greets him in as if he were a long lost friend. the other two are not so sure about him Then they realize that he is there sister’s son. They were his aunts! They could spin colors that he never heard of before. At the same time he has to worry about Opa . Opa is t5he queen and will be killed if Rump does not spin gold for her. At the end he finds out his name is Rumpelstiltskin. This is a wonderful book.
I gave this book 5 stars and 24 rubric rating because the story was very descriptive. For example when it described Rump it said how he felt about being teased about his name. It feels like the book is alive and is talking straight to me. I understand everything the book has in it. The setting brings the story to life. Adding to that this book was so good I did not want to put it down. This book should definatly get the Newberry Award.

Rump by Liesl Shurtliff 20/24
Overall I think Rump was a good book. I had surprising moments for instants like on chapters 12-14, hilarious, sad moment like when Rump’s Gran died. The reason why I gave it a rating of 20/24 was because I thought there was so many different setting which was a little confusing. Also a character could be forgotten. For example there are more than 10 characters. I made a text to world connection that The Village was kind of enslaved. Since, ‘‘Gold meant food’’, yet no food meant no food.

Rump ***** stars Rating from Rubric 24/24
In Rump by Liesl Shurtliff a boy named Rump gets teased because of his name. He has a full name, but no one knows it because his mother only said half of his name then she died. Now he goes on a journey to find his name and his destiny. He has to conquer trolls, greedy kings, and most of all MAGIC! I really like this book because it always keeps you engaged by action and adventure. For example, when the trolls caught Rump he was very calm, and the trolls didn’t eat him because he reeked of magic. I rated this book 5 star because it always stays on topic, it uses GREAT language, and most of all its full of MAGIC! That is why I think this book should totally get the Mock Newberry Award.

Title: Rump Stars: 5 Rating from rubric: 24/24
Rump is a great book about a boy who wants to know his full name. Rump gets teased A LOT. He finds his mother’s spinning wheel and figures out he can spin straw into gold. When King Barf (King Bartholomew Archibald Reginald Fife) comes to The Mountain, The miller Oswald lies to King Barf saying his daughter Opal can spin straw into gold, when Rump actually can; and the King takes Opal away to spin gold for him. Rump saves Opal by spinning all the gold, but Opal promises Rump something he doesn’t want: her first-born child with the king. The reason I like this book is because you can feel different emotions throughout the book. For example, when Fredrick and Bruno threw poop in Rump’s face ,it was funny, however, I felt bad for Rump. When Gran died, I almost cried! I also enjoyed how it gave a quick story of why Rump’s name was Rump , and then it sped straight into the book! Rump sure does need the Mock Newberry Award. Rump is a fun comedy, and I hope you learn a lesson from this book. ~ Lillie

Do you want to read a book about people spinning gold? Well if you do, then Rump is the book for you. It is about a boy named Rump. He wants to find his real name, so he sets out on a journey to find it. Along the way, he finds out that he has a special gift: spinning straw into gold. It did not take me long to get into this book. It is action packed with scenes like, “The pitchfork stabbed right next to my left eye.” It is also very descriptive like, “The worm wriggled down my throat.” It is also very original, because I have never heard a story quite like this one. It also makes me think of a text -to- self connection. Since Rump feels controlled by the king, I feel controlled by my mom. These are all the reasons why I chose my rubric and star rating. If you like books that are action packed and original, then Rump is the book for you.

Star rating: ***** 24/24 rubric rating
I rate this book 5 stars because the text was very descriptive with lots of detail. I could see Rump with the trolls in a dirty home. When Rump/ Robert found his name, I was excited. I gave the book a 24/24 rating because the book was very original. His house has lots of hay on the floors in the rooms. I could imagine his gran sitting down. The first few words and I imagined him. I think it should get the Newberry award.
