Overall, Absolutely Almost by Lisa Graff was an excellent book! It was VERY interesting and I could not put it down. I loved that the characters were life-like. Even though Calista left, it was still a GREAT book. My favorite part was when Albie makes friends with Darren, but I was very sad when Calista left. I have never read a story with the same concept. Those are the reasons that I love Absolutely Almost.
loved it too!
Absolutely Almost 5 stars 18 points/24 points
I rated Absolutely Almost (by Lisa Graff) 5 stars because I thought it was an award winning book. It was sad but also funny. I thought a hard part for Albie was when Calista left. That was Albie’s only babysitter that get’s him. She gave him a sad day when he needed one, she let him have donuts when he really needed something to cheer him up. Darren Ackleman was the complete opposite of what Calista was. He always gave Albie a hard time, calling him a dummy, and saying he was retarded. Sometimes I just think why would a kid want to be so mean to another person who didn’t do anything wrong? I think Albie knows that even if he has problems learning than he shouldn’t make a kid that’s not as bright as him call him a dummy.
it was funny:) and sad:(
ABSOLUTELY ALMOST by Lisa Graff
Star rating ****
I think Absolutely Almost is a great book .The interesting details were great and the language usage was flawless . Plus, it is very organized with different chapters separating the setting. It is also a very good book for fourth graders. I can imagine this as a real life situation Especially when Darren the bully steps in. However Wonder is very similar to this book. Now if you’ll excuse me I’ going to buy a copy.
Absolutely Almost 5 Stars 23/24
I think Lisa Graff did a spectacular job writing this book. The characters are well organized and the setting is spectacular. Continued by sadness and conflict – how much better can you get? That’s not all but Lisa Graff did a spectacular job naming, detailing, and describing all of the characters like Darren, Betsy and Calista. So if I were you I’d go and get Absolutely Almost now!
Absolutely Almost Rating from rubric: 21 Stars 3
I read the book Absolutely Almost by Lisa Graff. I gave it a three star rating because the plot wasn’t very engaging. It also was kind of confusing. I didn’t get why Besty was bullied. There wasn’t that that much action and I often lost interest. I thought the setting was very well described and very essential. For example, the donut shop where Albie stacked cups was well described. The characters where lifelike . You can tell from the book that she is very artistic and kind. You can tell from the book that Calista is very kind. This book was also very original.
In the story Absolutely Almost it was about a boy named Albie and he got kicked out of school but he doesn’t know he got kicked out so his dad says let’s just find a new school for you. He was taking the trash and he took the note from his school saying he got kicked out. The organization was good, the chapters where is the right place. It pulled me in right as I started it I couldn’t stop reading it. The book interested me when I started to read it. It interested me because it was a boy who had a lot of problems on his hands. The setting where like normal life, like Albie’s apartment or the park. Albie kind of only had two friends, Erland and Betsy. Betsy gave Albie gummy bears at lunch. Erland was super close to Albie but since Erland’s family had a TV show they had to move to a bigger and better apartment. Albie was super mad but his mom told him he could visit Erland sometime.
Title: Absolutely Almost Rubric Rating: 23/24 Stars: 5/5
Hi I’m David and over the last three weeks I have been reading an amazing book titled Absolutely Almost. Now, let me convince you that this is an amazing book. Throughout the story I just totally loved the plot language. In this story many words were used very well unlike other books! I was very surprised about lots of words they used in the book to help you understand the story more clearly! Now, let’s talk about the organization. I thought it had amazing organization in this story. Every time that I read a new chapter in the book it would really make sense to me. For example, the first chapter of the book called rocks really helped me understand that Albie maybe wasn’t as smart as other kids at his school, and I thought that that it was placed very well in the book. In this story it had some really great interest. Soon after I read the first few pages it really pulled me into the book. For example, the first chapter called rocks really was amazing to me and really made me want to read even more. I loved the way it explained the setting because you could easily visualize being there with the characters in the book. For example, when he was at Earlans party he explained all of the games they played, that there were flashing lights, and lots of cameras. I thought it explained the characters very well in the story. For example, it explained that Betsy had a studder and she was very short, but she had a grin that spread across her face. It also had great originality to me because this was like a one of a kind book for me. I hope that you understood my response clearly. Thank you so much for listening to my response, bye!!
I TOTALLY AGREE!!!
Title Absolutely Almost Star rating: 5 stars Rubric: 23
I liked the organization because they put how Albie was doing in school. Then the author started to say what troubled Albie , and how albie reacted in everyday life. Then everything fell in to place. The book held my interest thought the story, except the beginning. In the beginning you had to keep reading for it to get good, but after that it held my interest. When I had to stop I kept reading. The settings were pretty normal, but a lot were good. They had normal settings like school, home, and park. The cool ones were the Bronx Zoo. The character were cool and bad. The normal characters were Darran, and Albie’s parents. The cool characters were Albie ,and Calista. The originality was okey because most books have a main character who struggles through school
Rubric Rating 24/24 5 stars *****
I really liked the book Absolutely Almost by Lisa Graff. I thought it was a really great book with its sorrow, joy, and humor. Though I thought its organization was the best. The organization was amazing it really helped me understand the book. It also helped me understand the characters. Like when Darren (a bully) started being nice to Albie I knew it was because he saw Albie with Erlan who was on T.V. Also I thought that Absolutely Almost was a great respect to my reading and interest level. I think the jokes that Lisa Graff put in there were interesting. I also thought that the python eating the pig was interesting. And I thought the setting really helped the mood of the story. For example when Albie and Calista were at Bronx Zoo the python was best shown in the zoo. Also at Bronx Zoo it really explained the setting with the different animals and different sections. I thought Lisa Graff really explained the characters, too. They all were very lifelike and memorable. For instance Albie is an Asian child with struggles with reading and math. With all these reasons I gave all sections a 4 so I gave the whole book a 24/24.Also I gave Absolutely Almost 5 stars because I thought it didn’t need any change, so it was perfect the way it is, so hope you like it too.
